Advisory Bodies

An Advisory Body is a dedicated team of experts, with relevant experience and knowledge of the industry who are brought together to provide insight and advice to support the future of the industry’s workforce. 

Our Advisory Bodies will provide technical advice and expert industry input on workforce, skills and training needs facing the relevant sectors and subsectors. The expertise of our members is crucial in shaping and advancing the future of Australia’s construction, property and water industries. Our Advisory Bodies have been established to ensure there is adequate sector representation.

Provide insight on current and emerging workforce challenges and priorities, skills development mechanisms and skills needs facing the industry.

VET Supply Advisory Body

The VET Supply Advisory Body will be dedicated to enhancing Australia’s renowned Vocational Education and Training (VET) system. The Advisory Body will provide technical advice to BuildSkills’ Training Products and Projects team on matters relating to the training system. By providing expert advice on matters related to the VET system, the Advisory Body will ensure that the system continues to meet high standards and effectively address the skills needs in the industry.

Civil Construction Advisory Body

The Civil Construction sector comprises organisations that construct engineering projects or infrastructure, such as railways, dams, irrigation systems, harbour and river works, and water and gas supply systems. By offering expert guidance and advice on matters related to workforce, skills and training in the sector, the Advisory Body aims to enhance the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of civil engineering and infrastructure development.

Water Advisory Body

The Water Advisory Body is comprised of member organisations that focus on the essential functions of the sector. These includes the capture, storage, purification, and supply of water through complex piping systems, as well as the operation of irrigation systems for agriculture and sewerage systems, drainage systems and sewage treatment plants. The Water Advisory Body will provide expert industry input, advice, feedback, and direction on a range of issues related to workforce and skills needs facing the Water sector.

Plumbing Advisory Body

The Plumbing Advisory Body is dedicated to overseeing and advancing the Plumbing Services sector, which includes the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems in both residential and commercial buildings. This Advisory Body will provide expert input, advice, feedback, and direction on a range of issues related to workforce and skills needs facing the sector.

Building and Construction Advisory Body

The Building and Construction sector comprises organisations that construct buildings and structures for both residential and commercial purposes. The sector encompasses buildings used primarily for retail and wholesale trade, offices, transport activities, detached houses, semi-detached, row or terrace houses, townhouses, duplexes, flats, units, and apartments. This Advisory Body will provide expert industry input, advice, feedback, and direction on a range of issues related to workforce and skills needs facing the sector.

Property Service Advisory Body

The Property Services sector encompasses service providers who interact with the Construction, Property and Water Sector in different ways at different points in an asset’s lifecycle. These include the use of land, planning and design, construction and refurbishment, and occupation management and use. The Property Services Advisory Body will provide expert industry input, advice, feedback, and direction on a range of issues on workforce and skills needs facing the Property Services sector.

The workforce planning function is the strategic centrepiece for BuildSkills’ activity and underpins intelligence-gathering focused on identifying and forecasting current, emerging, and future workforce challenges and opportunities in the construction, property and water industries.  The primary role of the Workforce Planning Advisory Body is to gather and analyse intelligence to identify and forecast current, emerging, and future workforce challenges and opportunities. By providing expert insights and strategic guidance, the Advisory Body will support effective workforce planning and helps address critical industry needs.
