BuildSkills Australia, the national Jobs and Skills Council for the building and construction, property services and water industries, today announced that Ms Gabrielle Trainor AO will retire from her role as Board Co-Chair, effective 30 June 2025.
Since its establishment, Ms Trainor has played a pivotal role in shaping BuildSkills’ governance and strategic direction, ensuring its successful transition from inception to operations. Her leadership, in collaboration with fellow Co-Chair Paula Masters, has been instrumental in setting the strategic foundations for industry collaboration, stakeholder engagement, and guiding the development of BuildSkills' initial program of work - shaping the organisation’s strategic priorities and long-term workforce initiatives to address labour and skills challenges at a national level.
During her tenure, Ms Trainor oversaw key milestones, including the implementation of foundational governance frameworks, development of the inaugural strategic plan, and engagement with stakeholders for critical industry partnerships. Her contributions have helped position BuildSkills effectively to shape strategies for workforce and skills development across the built environment sector.
Reflecting on her tenure, Ms Trainor said:
"It has been a privilege to contribute to the establishment and growth of BuildSkills Australia and support our role as a Jobs and Skills Council. We play a vital role in helping to create the construction industry of the future. I am confident the momentum BuildSkills has created will continue.”
“I thank my Co-Chair and fellow Directors for their collegiality and commitment and Brett Schimming and his team for their great professionalism.”
Board Co-Chair Paula Masters acknowledged Ms Trainor’s impact, stating:
"From the outset, Gabrielle has provided stability and vision, ensuring BuildSkills developed a strong foundation and adapted to evolving industry challenges. Her contributions have been invaluable, and we sincerely thank her for her leadership and dedication."
Following Ms Trainor’s retirement, Mr Peter Daly will join Ms Masters as Co-Chair of BuildSkills, commencing 1 July 2025. Mr Daly brings over 20 years of leadership experience across the corporate and not-for-profit sectors and has served on multiple boards, government and industry advisory bodies in BuildSkills areas of interest and other sectors. His expertise in governance and industry collaboration will further strengthen BuildSkills’ role in industry stewardship.
The Board and management of BuildSkills extends its sincere appreciation to Ms Trainor for her service to the organisation and welcomes Mr Daly.
